Scottish Enterprise works to encourage the growth of Scottish businesses, by increasing the abilities, standards, product range and competitiveness of companies, particularly in key sectors of the Scottish economy. The Industry and Skills Directorate of Scottish Enterprise helps companies in key industry sectors to improve their competitiveness. These key industries are biotechnology, energy, food and drink, electronics, optoelectronics, software, textiles and tourism. The directorate also includes the technology ventures team, which aims to commercialise the research findings and intellectual property held by Scottish universities.
